Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira with Dojo Americana's Mark Hopkins.
Team Nogueira dropped by Dojo Americana a few times this past August while getting Big Nog ready for his fight against Randy Couture. Jr. Dos Santos is Nogueira's training partner and it was great to see these two guys train.
The first night they came in was on a Monday night. We were right in the middle of a jiu-jitsu class when all of a sudden Big Nog and his crew walked in thru the back door. A lot of the guys were tripping out--either to see one of UFC's biggest stars walk in on the mat or the thought they would have to roll with him. They had a good training session. The entire mats were soaking wet. I haven't seen those mats get that wet before. I guess we don't train hard enough. I think the highlight for Nogueira and his crew was the shower session though. We don't have showers installed yet so the guys had to fill 5 gallon water jugs and shower outside. It was pretty funny. Lucky for them it was summer. Thanks to professor Valente for bringing them by.

Congratulations to Scott Cohen, Grapplers Quest 2009 Lightweight Champion!

Dojo Americana blue belt, Scott Cohen, went through 4 worthy opponents before winning the gold at the
2009 Grapplers Quest Tournament in Del Mar.
Dojo Americana Kickboxing Instructor, Ke Sneller, Brings
Home Silver and Bronze From Kyokushin Challenge!
.
Ke Sneller fought six times in 2 hours to earn a silver and gold medal performance at the 2009 Northwest Kyokushin Challenge.
Ke fought in two divisions. At 38-years-old, he fought in the over 35-years-old division which was an open weight class division, which means he fought larger and heavier fighters. Despite weighing in at 165 lbs., he won the silver in that division which is quite impressive. He got off to a slow start in the In the under 35-year-old middleweight division where he won a close first match by decision, but lost a close second fight in overtime by decision; he won his third fight at that weight to win the bronze. See links to his fights and the results below.
